Hello, Region 9!
The deadlines for quartet and chorus contest registration are fast approaching - Feb. 15 for quartets and Feb. 16 for choruses. Please note that late entries for either quartets or choruses is now $100! I guess headquarters is trying to tell us that we need to get our registrations in on time! :) The Order of Appearance draw will take place on Feb. 22. I will send out the Order of Appearance for both contests as soon as I receive it from headquarters. The Time Pattern will be prepared soon after and sent as soon as it is ready.
REMINDERS: Housing Requests are due to Diane Corrie by February 27. All Events Registration requests are due to Joann Abrams by March 12.
Quartet Briefing will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, April 16. Chorus Briefing will take place at 11:30 am on Friday, April 16.

I have several items I wish to communicate from our Site Visit on January 23. Please read everything carefully and communicate these items to your members:

The registration packets from International for our Region 9 competition will be coming in January. Many of you have probably signed up to receive this information via email rather than by a mailed paper packet. Remember - if you don't have the information by mid-January, call International Headquarters, Music Services at 800-992-7464.
See you soon!

Contest Housing

From Diane Corrie - Below, please find all the information that you will need to make reservations for Competition 2010-Beach Blanket Barbershop starring your chorus and/or quartet.  This information is being sent to chorus presidents/team coordinators and to travel coordinators.
The hotel remains the Hilton Oceanfront at Daytona Beach.  The room rate this year is $147.00 + tax for regular rooms and $247.00 + tax for suites.  (this is per night).  Suites will be assigned on a first come/first served basis. Again, this year, your chorus will able to save your members the room tax.  Two things are required to achieve this.  With your reservations, I will need a copy of your 501c tax number and form.  Also, I will need a chorus credit card or the chorus treasurer will need to write a check for the full amount at check-in time.  I will still require credit cards on every room for incidentals (meals, drinks, phone calls, etc.)  On average, this will save every room approximately $17.00 per night.
If your chorus is planning on arriving by bus, please let me know and I will send you further details.
Now let's talk Pre-key Friday.  As usual, pre-key will be held from 3:30-5:30 on Friday for those who are checking in that day.
Please encourage your chorus members to be dressed for quartet contest.  Please also remind them that they have a 50-50 chance of getting their room before contest.  While the hotel can charge a late check-out fee to rooms that don't check out by the appropriate time, they are not allowed by Florida law to evict someone from their room on check-out day just because they have someone else booked for that room. This year I am going to ask the hotel for arrangements to store our luggage.  I am also asking them to make sure that I have some keys for each chorus.  Now, I am asking you to encourage your members to help each other out.  If you get a room and your friend doesn't, please allow them to take their luggage to your room and freshen up their if they need to.  This applies not only to you but to all members of your chorus.  If someone is arriving on Thursday, maybe they would be the luggage room for some of your chorus members. (Don't ask a competing quartet to do this).  I promise that I, or a member of the assistance chorus, will stay with the luggage until all luggage has been distributed.  By the end of quartet contest, I will then move to the front desk to assist with the distribution of room keys just like last year.
I hope this helps.  If you have any questions, please e-mail me at musicnurse@embarqmail.com.  In an absolute emergency, you may call me at 239-931-6292.  Please be kind as it's usually my mother who will be answering the phone.  I am unable to take calls at work.  Starting Wednesday, April 14th, you will need to reach me at 239-851-1879.  Don't try this number before then.  It's my cell phone and I usually don't have my phone on except for emergencies.
